The Tasmanian Craft Fair (TCF) in the northern town of Deloraine is the largest working demonstration of arts and crafts in Australia. It is held annually, coinciding with the long weekend at the start of November. It is one of the biggest events in Tasmania, along with Festivale and Taste of Tasmania.
Every year, visitors to the TCF are treated to fine art displays, craft stalls, gourmet food outlets, entertainment and children’s fun activities as well as working craft displays.
The TCF hosts approximately 200 artists and artisans, involves more than 400 community volunteers and attracts up to 15,000 people from throughout Tasmania and interstate.
It is spread across numerous locations in picturesque Deloraine, which is set around the banks of the Meander River. With a population of over 5,000 Deloraine and district is home to people from a variety of backgrounds including traditional farming families, local businesspeople and arts and craftspeople who have settled here for a creative lifestyle.
Begun in 1981 from a commitment to unify the traditional working farmers of the community and the new wave of arts and craftspeople calling Deloraine their home, the TCF has prospered under the careful guidance of the Rotary Club of Deloraine and is a culturally significant event that has helped shape the town to what it is today.
Funds raised through the TCF are mainly put back into local communities with the remainder supporting projects both in Australia and overseas. Community improvement projects, development projects, and projects to aid the disadvantaged have all been funded by the TCF, with more than $3 million having been raised over the lifetime of the TCF.
In 2017 we had a focus on the next generation of artists with invited artists and a curated exhibition. The Craft Fair also featured glass blowing, blacksmithing and a range of attractions and activities for children.
If you are now making plans for 2018, the Craft Fair will be held from Friday 2rd through to Monday 5th November, 2018. You can prepay by buying tickets at www.trybooking.com/243422
