Welcome to the Rotary Club of Deloraine.
We are an active voluntary service club, working to improve our community.
We run the iconic Tasmanian Craft Fair every November - with over 200 stalls, art displays, fine food outlets and entertainment. The Fair attracts up to 20,000 visitors to our town over four days and is the largest event of its type in Australia.
It requires a lot of careful planning and voluntary energy, but the end result has been a sizeable boost to tourism in the district every year, as well as a fantastic fund-raiser for our Club.
Rotary is a non-profit service organisation, so the proceeds from the Craft Fair are re-invested into our community. Over the years, we helped develop the Meander River banks into the beautiful attraction they are now, including the building of two pedestrian bridges. We assisted in funding the Meander Valley Enterprise Centre and have made significant donations to our local hospital and aged care facilities.
The Club helped start Giant Steps, a school and therapeutic centre for children and adults on the Autism Spectrum located in Deloraine. A donation of $15,000 was made to Giant Steps from the proceeds of the 2016 Craft Fair. The primary charity for the 2017 Craft Fair is the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
Each year, we run the Model United Nations Assembly (MUNA) for senior secondary students across the State, and a Learn-to-Swim campaign for local primary school children.
We also provide annual scholarships for both tertiary and trade students in our area.
As well as the service side of Rotary, our dinner meetings on Tuesday nights provide good fun and food, as well as excellent guest speakers. Our fellowship activities include trips to the theatre and cinema, an annual car rally and occasional themed dinners and barbecues.
If you would like to know more about Rotary in Deloraine, come along to a weekly dinner meeting as our guest, and have a chat to the members. Perhaps you are interested in helping us run the Tasmanian Craft Fair - we can always use more volunteers!
